Milling machines

XMach3KC_ver9.jpg
Graphic-3KS machine can be supplied only in an engraving or only in a milling version.
In this case, the machine costs less.
ou can pay the difference and purchase an add-on at any time.
Machine operating modes

SAUNO Graphic-3KS machine can perform four types of processing: milling, impact-etching, scanning of three-dimensional models and marking.

In marking or vector engraving mode, the machine engraves vector images using the impact method (diamond needle) on stone, metal, plastic and other hard materials.

Vector images are made up of segments and curved lines. Vector engraving accurately conveys the smallest details of the design.

A 3D-scanner is used to input three-dimensional models of finished bas-reliefs into a computer.
Graphic-3KS machine uses a contact-type scanner with a tip point.
The scanning program creates a computer model in STL format, which can be used in any 3D modeling programs - 3DMax, ArtCAM and others.
Operating principle of SAUNO milling machines
1. The initial 3D model is created in a 3D processing program, such as 3DMax or ArtCAM.
If you have a finished bas-relief, you can scan it (enter it into your computer) with a 3D scanner.
If you need to mill an inscription, it is created in the ArtCAM program as simply as in a regular text editor.

2. Milling technological parameters are set - cutter shape, feed speed, cut depth, etc.
These parameters depend on the material being processed and the type of cutter.
Based on these parameters, the control program (CP) is calculated, i.e. the trajectory along which the tool (cutter) will move.

3. At the “Start” command, the machine, under the control of the Engrave program, cuts out the bas-relief, moving the tool along a previously calculated path.

Consumables
Milling. Consumable material - milling motor (spindle) and milling cutters.

Milling motor (spindle)

Graphic-3KS machines are equipped with milling motors with a power of 2.2 kW and an adjustable rotation speed from 1000 to 24000 rpm.

Milling cutters

Machining stone, wood and metal require different cutters.
Milling cutters also differ in the type of processing (such as profile cutting, engraving inscriptions and bas-reliefs, etc.).
You can buy cutters from SAUNO, including those for working on granite.

Impact etching. Consumable material - engraving needle with a diamond tip. The life of the needle depends on the type of stone and engraving mode and is approximately 15 images 30x40cm. SAUNO needles can be sharpened several times on a SAUNO sharpening machine.

Advantages of SAUNO milling machines

Design and operating modes
- Three-axis automatic machine with two replaceable heads for milling and impact engraving.
- Four operating modes: 2D/3D milling, impact engraving, marking, 3D scanner.
- All modes are controlled by one control unit and from one Engrave program.
- High-precision German ball screw drives. No backlash.
- Compact and mobile design.
- Possibility of installing the machine on large stone slabs.
- Milling with the function of monitoring the surface level of the workpiece.
- Built-in electronic level sensor. Surface preliminary scanning mode.
- Thanks to the tracking function, there is no need to level the workpiece.
- Marking mode – engraving of vector images using the impact method.
- Milling of selected fragments of the control program.
- Checking the milled area along the contour.
- 3D scanner for entering three-dimensional models into a computer. File format: STL.

Connection
- Connection to a computer with a USB cable without any adapters or drivers.
- Noise immunity. Momentary communication failures do not interrupt tool movement.
- Works from any computer (desktop, laptop, netbook) with Windows XP/ Vista/ Windows 7/ Windows 8.
- The machine does not take up computer resources. Control several machines from one computer simultaneously.

Software
- Linear (G01) and circular (G02/03) interpolation.
- Input format: standard G-codes. No additional post processors are needed.
- Import of vector images in DXF format with automatic conversion to G-codes.
- The size of the control program is limited only by the memory capacity of your computer.
- Viewing the control program (CP) in the form of text and a three-dimensional model.
- Rotate, scale, view the 3D model from any angle.
- Preview of tool movements in 2D/3D. You can check the processing process in advance.
- Display of X,Y,Z coordinates and feed F for the current line of the control program.
- Information on the overall dimensions of the milling area, processing depth and free-running height.
- Changing the position of the workpiece zero point for the control program.
- Rotate the control program at a given angle.
- Software in Russian and English.

Milling control
- Display of tool movements in 2D/3D during processing.
- Pause and continue working at any time from the machine console or using a computer.
- Feed adjustment from 5 to 400% of the nominal from the machine console or on the computer.
- Interruption of work, turning off the machine and computer and then continuing.
- Continuation from the interrupted place in case of emergency shutdown of the machine and computer with one click of a button.
- Manual control of tool movement directly from the machine console.
- Automatic switching on/off of the spindle and coolant pump.
- Preliminary calculation of processing time.
- Displays the time remaining until the end of work.
- Protocol of completed work.
