Universal machine "Graphic-3KL" has laser and impact engraving functions.
The machine uses original technologies developed by SAUNO for engraving photographic quality images on stone and other materials.

Operating principle of SAUNO laser-engraving machines
1. Image is entered into the computer using a scanner, camera, disk, flash-drive or from the Internet.
2. Image is edited in a graphics editor program, for example, Adobe Photoshop. Unnecessary background is removed, photo defects are retouched, clarity and contrast are improved.
3. Image is copied into the Engrave machine control program. The required resolution (step), size and engraving mode are set.
4. At the “Start” command, the machine engraves the image. At the end of the work, the machine returns to the starting point.
Consumables
Laser engraving. Consumable material - laser tube - emitter. When engraving images, a 40W tube is sufficient. It has a resource of two to three thousand hours. Laser engraving of a portrait measuring 30x40cm takes from 10 to 40 minutes. Thus, one laser tube can engrave thousands of images.
Impact etching. Consumable material - engraving needle with a diamond tip. The life of the needle depends on the type of stone and engraving mode and is approximately 15 images 30x40cm. SAUNO needles can be sharpened several times on a SAUNO sharpening machine.
Advantages of SAUNO laser engraving + impact-etching machines
Expanded range of brightness gradations when engraving
In the SAUNO laser machine, the diameter and depth of each engraving point depends on the brightness of the source image point. Light dots are engraved stronger and deeper than the dark dots.
A conventional laser machine burns both dark and light dots with the same brightness, so halftones are transmitted only by changing the density of the dots.
Graphic 3-KL machine produces more halftones because it changes both the density of the dots and the brightness of an individual dot at the same time.The brightness of the dots is adjusted in the Engrave program using simple graphs, just as it is done with impact etching.
Adjustments can be made directly during operation. Dimmable technology makes engraving deeper.
An engraving made on a SAUNO laser machine can be easily painted, thanks to its greater depth.
Replaceable engraving heads - laser and impact
SAUNO Graphic-3KL machine can perform both laser engraving and impact etching.
To do this, you only need to install the desired tool head.
Replacing heads takes only 2-3 minutes.
Machine has a single control unit for both laser engraving and impact etching, as well as one control program.
The Engrave program has impact and laser engraving modes.
Three-axis automatic machine with ball screw drives
Graphic-3KL machine is three-coordinate.
Thanks to the vertical Z drive, it can be easily adjusted to suit different thicknesses of stone workpieces.
Ball screw drives are used on all three axes.
In terms of positioning accuracy, reliability and durability, ball screws are superior to belt drives used in most modern laser machines.
Automatic focal length setting
In laser machines, the focal length is usually set manually using a template, as shown in the figure on the left.
In SAUNO laser machines, the focal length is set automatically before engraving using an electronic sensor (see figure on the right).
Engraving on inclined and curved surfaces
SAUNO Graphic -3KL machine has an automatic surface level monitoring system.
Before engraving begins, an electronic sensor scans the surface of the workpiece in just a couple of minutes.
When engraving, the machine repeats the profile of the surface, tracking not only the inclination of the workpiece, but also the bend - the curved surface.
The machine can engrave even with height differences of more than 10mm.
All features of the Engrave program are available for laser engraving:
- Connecting to a computer via USB without any adapters or drivers.
- Connecting several machines to one computer.
- Works from any computer (desktop, laptop, netbook) with Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10.
- Transferring images from Adobe Photoshop to Engrave with a simple Copy/Paste command.
- Automatic conversion of an image to a raster in the Engrave program.
- Original rasterization algorithms to choose from.
- Display of the engraving process and tool movements on the computer screen.
- Preliminary calculation of engraving time.
- Setting the size and location of the picture on the workpiece in the Engrave program.
- Placement of pictures on ovals and shaped blanks.
- Checking whether the image extends beyond the oval/shaped workpiece.
- Arbitrary choice of the location of the workpiece zero point.
- Checking the image along the contour.
- List of materials. Saving engraving parameters for various materials.
- Engraving of image fragments of arbitrary shape (image mask mode).
- Engraving mode for selected halftones.
- Automatic shutdown in case of power failures and subsequent resumption of work from the interrupted point.
- Zero point of the machine. Recover from power failures even in the absence of an uninterruptible power supply (UPS).
- Work protocol for monitoring completed orders.
